A Door Access Control System for an office is a sophisticated electronic security solution designed to manage and regulate the movement of people within a workplace, ensuring a secure workplace by preventing unauthorised entry. It replaces vulnerable traditional keys with electronic credentials, offering enhanced security, control, and accountability.
How the System Works: A 3-Step Process
The entire process, which is managed by a central control panel or software, revolves around three steps: Authentication, Authorisation, and Action.
1. Authentication (Presenting Credentials)
The user initiates the process by presenting a unique credential to the reader installed near the door. Common authentication methods include:
- Key Cards / Fobs (RFID)
- Biometrics
- PIN Codes
- Mobile Access
2. Authorisation
The door reader sends the credential information to the Access Control Panel (the system's brain).
3. Action and Logging (Secure Access)
Based on the authorisation decision, one of two actions occurs:
- Access Granted: The control panel sends a signal to the electronic door locks (like a magnetic lock or electric strike), causing them to momentarily release, allowing the authorised person to enter.
- Access Denied: The lock remains secured, and an attempt log is recorded.
Every successful entry, denial, and even door held-open violation is instantly recorded, generating a comprehensive audit trail for security and compliance purposes.
