At our state-of-the-art pilot manufacturing facility in Mumbai, over 80% of our equipment is made in India, reflecting our innovation-led, self-reliant approach. Manufacturing

Our engineers developed a scalable manufacturing process for rechargeable Zn–MnO₂ battery technology. To implement this, we designed and developed a first-of-its-kind state-of-the-art pilot facility in Vikhroli, Mumbai, in 2022. Today, it enables end-to-end production of zinc-based rechargeable batteries, which are supplied to UEP in the United States. 

Research & Development

Our team of scientists and engineers — experts in electrochemistry, materials science, and product design — are focused on advancing battery technology through continuous research and development. We work across key areas such as cell architecture, electrochemical efficiency, material characterisation, and product design, all with the goal of improving battery performance and reliability.

Our state-of-the-art R&D facility supports this innovation with a full suite of advanced instruments, including scanning electron microscopes, X-ray diffraction systems, electrochemical workstations, and lifecycle testers. We also use high-end modelling and simulation tools to study battery behaviour, predict performance, and accelerate development.

By combining deep technical expertise with cutting-edge infrastructure, we’re engineering smarter, safer, and more sustainable energy storage solutions — built for real-world applications and future-ready systems. 

Reinventing Energy Storage

Historically, Zinc-manganese dioxide (Zn-MnO₂) batteries were limited to single use due to the non-rechargeability of MnO₂. Advancements by Urban Electric Power have enabled the development of stable, rechargeable Zn–MnO₂ batteries that operate at near-theoretical capacity. With innovations such as zinc crossover mitigation, these batteries now offer significantly improved cycle life and consistent performance. This marks a meaningful shift in battery technology — driven by non-toxic, earth-abundant materials — and has already been deployed at prominent locations including the City University of New York and the Navajo Nation in the United States.
