India's solar manufacturing sector has entered a defining phase. Backed by policy initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), domestic solar module manufacturing capacity has grown from 2.3 GW in 2014 to nearly 172 GW as of March 2026, while installed solar capacity has crossed 150 GW.

The focus, understandably, has been on expanding manufacturing capacity.

However, as India accelerates its renewable energy ambitions, warehousing can no longer be viewed as a downstream function in the growth of the solar industry. It has become an integral part of manufacturing performance, determining how efficiently products are stored, handled and moved before they reach the market.

The solar industry doesn't simply need more storage capacity. It needs a reimagining of how storage is designed, engineered and built for future-proof operations.

Why solar warehousing is different

Solar manufacturing presents warehousing challenges that conventional industries rarely encounter. Manufacturers often need to store raw materials, packaging materials and finished goods within the same facility, while accommodating evolving module dimensions and multiple pallet configurations. At the same time, they must ensure complete inventory visibility, maintain product accessibility and optimise material flow to support faster production and dispatch cycles.

This philosophy shaped our work for one of India's leading integrated solar manufacturers.

Operating multiple warehouses for raw materials, packaging materials and finished goods had increased turnaround and dispatch times. The business also required 100% product selectivity while accommodating multiple pallet sizes and retaining the flexibility to support future growth.

Rather than simply increasing storage capacity, we engineered a customised Mobile Pallet Racking solution that consolidated operations into a single warehousing system. The solution delivered 6,000 pallet positions, increased storage capacity by 70% compared to conventional Selective Pallet Racking, and incorporated intelligent location management for accurate inventory tracking. Most importantly, it was designed to adapt as manufacturing requirements evolved.
