Guide to Clean and Maintain Your Godrej Washing Machine
Your Washing Machine is the workhorse of your laundry routine, which makes your clothes look new and smell fresh every day. Whether you own a Front-Load Washing Machine or a Top-Load Washing Machine that is either fully automatic or semi-automatic, remember, that just a little care will go a long way in enhancing its longevity, efficiency, and performance, thereby keeping your clothes in pristine condition.
This is a comprehensive guide to walk you through the essential steps to clean and maintain your washing machine.
First and foremost, while you prepare to clean your Godrej washing machine always unplug the machine from the power source and ensure you have removed all the clothes from it.
The next step is to clean the interior and exterior of your washing machine.
Clean the Interior
- Run a normal water cycle: Empty the drum and run the machine in a normal water cycle without any clothes; some machines also have a hot water cycle which can be effective. Then add the descaling powder or tablet to the drum and run another water cycle. This helps to sanitize the interior and remove any mold or mildew build-up. Do this whenever you feel your machine needs cleaning, preferably once a month. Some machines have a Tub clean program which can be used for the same. Advanced Tub clean programs deliver residue removal without the use of descaling powders.
- Clean the dispensers: Remove detergent and fabric softener dispensers and soak them in warm, soapy water. You could also use an old toothbrush to scrub away any residue but do not use anything harsh that could leave scratch marks. This is recommended to be done once every month.
- Clean the filter: Godrej’s fully automatic front-load & top load washing machine and Semi-Automatic Top Load washing machines have a lint filter; remove it and rinse under running water to get rid of any debris regularly.
Clean the Exterior
- Wipe the machine: Mix a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and wipe down the machine’s exterior surfaces. Then, gently wipe the control panel using a damp cloth. It is advisable to follow this once a month. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could scratch & and damage the machine.
- Clean the door seal: The rubber door seal can accumulate dirt and moisture, leading to mold growth. Wipe it with a mixture of equal parts water and distilled white vinegar. Be sure to reach into the folds of the seal. You could do this every 15 days.
Other useful maintenance tips to follow on a regular basis:
- Leave the door open: After each wash, open the washing machine’s door or lid to allow moisture to evaporate, preventing mold growth.
- Use the right detergent: Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the type and quantity of detergent to use. Using too much detergent can leave detergent residue or white patches on clothes, in some cases foam may also overflow from the washing machine; whereas using less detergent could give an ineffective wash quality or leave odour on the clothes.
- Balance Loads: Avoid overloading the washing machine, as it can strain the motor and suspension. Always check and then use the recommended load capacity for optimal performance of the machine.
- Check hoses: Periodically inspect water supply hoses for leaks or any visible cracks. You can call the authorized service center to check and replace it if you notice any damage.
- Correct placement of the machine: Keep the washing machine in a dry place, away from humidity and wet areas like bathrooms to avoid any corrosion or mildew due to the moisture.
- Washing machine servicing: You can avail of service maintenance from the brand’s authorized service centers. Always go for company-authorized personnel and products to stay protected from any fraud.
These are just some simple steps to follow to ensure the smooth functioning of your washing machine so that it won’t give you trouble in unexpected ways, instead will give your clothes the wash that you truly desire.
